Horrible little monsters
I’ve recently started doing a bit more small scale photography, however, I have yet to get all of the required ducks in a row. I still need to work out a softer light source but don’t really want to invest in a macro ring flash at this early stage. Here are a few of the images I have taken of little creatures, some quite pretty but some, downright disgusting. It’s quite an addictive type of photography so expect to see plenty more of this in the future.

Pyrochroa serraticornis, Red Cardinal or Lily Beetle
a lily beetle larvae – quite the most disgusting thing I’ve photographed so far – apparently they cover themselves in their own excrement to deter predators from eating them… nasty!
bit tricky this one, but I think it’s Chloromyia formosa, a soldier fly, again, found down the alottment
I think this is a Green Dock Beetle – Gastrophysa viridula, found him on a piece of weed matting down the alottment
