Not far from Rieveaux Abbey in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park in the small town of Helmesley, lies Helmesley Castle. Now the castles that I’m used to seeing seem to be a little more intact than this one but it is still a fascinating little place and it’s fun to walk a circuit of the castle along the moat bank.
A small castle consists of a main building that has a few rooms you can investigate (including a cellar) and the remains of a tower, which is pretty much just a couple of walls.
Well worth a visit if you are in to your castles!
